God Friended Me, episode 2 “The Good Samaritan”

In this episode, Miles’ podcast gets picked up by a major distribution service, but this leads to problems for him. His producer wants him to take a hard line on the atheist viewpoint, discouraging him from a more open approach. He is told, “I don’t want you to meet your audience in the middle. Pick a lane and stick to it.” Miles accepts the job at first, but he never feels comfortable there, and ends up quitting.

·         Too often news outlets and the entertainment industry want to be polarizing. Is there a place where dialogue can happen, and people can learn from one another?

The new friend suggestion from the God account is a woman named Katie, whose son is autistic. She loses her job and then her son goes missing. In the height of her despair, she says to Miles and Cara, “Do you have any idea what that feels like, to no be able to connect with the person you love the most in the world?” This question hits them hard: Miles and Cara are each struggling in their relationships with their parents.

·         What holds us back from connecting with the people we love most in the world?

The newer relationships are getting more complicated. Miles and Cara are developing a friendship, but is there more happening? Rakesh and Jaya have hit their first bump. How will they grow as a couple? Father/Son and Mother/Daughter relationships have their difficulties too. How much of life is getting what we want out of relationship and how much is giving ourselves into a relationship?
